
C. Scott Sharnetzka is a native of York County, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Lebanon Valley College with a B.S. Degree in Music Education in 1968. He served with the 327th Army Band from 1968 to 1971 as solo cornetist and leader of the Jazz Band. In 1973 he graduated from the Peabody Conservatory with a Master of Music Degree in Trumpet. He has recently retired as a band director in Harford County Public Schools serving in that capacity and as Department Chair at C. Milton Wright High School from 1979 to 2003. He has held the position of Director of the Bel Air Community Band and the Bel Air Jazz Ensemble since 1996. He spent a year as the interim Band Director at Elizabethtown College and is presently on the staff of Harford Community College as an adjunct professor of music. Mr. Sharnetzka is active as a guest conductor and adjudicator throughout Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. Mr. Sharnetzka has performed with the Ice Capades, the Ice Follies, the Moscow Circus, numerous Off-Broadway Shows and as a Free-Lance trumpet player in Pennsylvania and Maryland. He is a student of Don Tison and studied conducting with Dr. James Thurmond and Dr. Richard Higgins. His professional memberships include the NEA, MENC, MMEA, MBDA, PMEA, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia and The Association of Concert Bands. In 1997 he received the Maryland Music Educators Association Award for Excellence-Outstanding Music Teacher of the Year Award. Presently he serves on the Executive Board of the Maryland Band Directors Association. Mr. Sharnetzka lives in Fawn Grove, Pennsylvania with his wife Sandra (also a retired music teacher from Harford County). They have two sons, Craig, Adam, a daughter-in-law, Rachel, a granddaughter, Corinne and a grandson, Levi Scott.
